Truly a phenomenal piece of statement jewelry.
This incredibly fascinating piece is made from an antique circa 1880 Victorian Sterling Silver Swiss made Demi Hunter case pocket watch, with lucite crystal.
This lovely 130+ year old Sterling silver pocket watch case was completely handmade.
The entire case has been exquisitely engraved. The back of the case features a stunning leaf and flying sparrow motif along with an amazingly sweet home on a lake scene! This is one of the loveliest precious metal pocket watch cases that I’ve had the joy of working with.
The pocket watch case is embellished with a highly detailed antiqued brass dragonfly charm. Also within the case is a 2.0+ carat faceted cushioned shape Pink Tourmaline gemstone. A variety of vintage circa (1870 to 1950) watch cogs, gears and wheels made of brass and steel also have been safely nestled within the case.
The case itself is in terrific condition for its age, it has a few minor blemishes here and there which just adds to its old world charm. The hand engraving is intact and in wonderful condition, which is rare for a precious metal watch case that is over 130+ years old.
I was absolutely thrilled that I was able to recover this watch and repurpose it as a jewelry piece. Typically many of these beautiful watches are fated to be melted down for precious metal value.
The pocket watch case suspends from a Victorian styled bail I’ve fashioned from a piece of sterling silver over brass filigree.
A soldered antiqued silver over copper chain with lobster clasp completes the necklace.
The watch case measures: 1-3/8 inches in diameter and the watch case & pendant bail is 2-1/2 inches tall.
